Carbon Block Filters:
Activated carbon block filters are excellent filters which improve on the characteristics of GAC (granular activated carbon) filters in a number of ways. Carbon blocks are pressed into a single piece of carbon with a consistent density meaning the water flow is evenly distributed throughout the carbon in the filter. This prevents channeling, fluidization and carbon bypassing that can occur in traditional GAC filters. The consistent density of the carbon block also helps control flow rate and pressure drop through the filter while maintaining contact time with the carbon to ensure excellent filtration performance. Carbon block filters also typically produce less carbon fines than GAC filters, and have the added capability of capturing sediment in addition to the carbon filtration. Our whole house carbon block filters are effective at reducing chlorine taste and odor, dirt, sediment, cysts, and more!

Pleated Polyester Filters:
Pleated filters offer the lowest pressure drop and highest flow rate of all sediment filter types by providing as much filtration surface as possible to maximize water flow. However because pleated filters offer no filtration gradient or depth they are best suited to filter sediment of uniform particle size. USWF only carries pleated polyester filters. The synthetic filter media is bacteria resistant so that it can be used on both treated and untreated water supplies. The pleated polyester is also highly durable meaning that you may rinse and clean the filter once it becomes clogs to extend the filter life.

String Wound Polypropylene Filters
String wound filters are typically used in well water applications because they are excellent at handling a wide variety of particle sizes. The string creates a large surface area for dirt holding, and as the string is wound tighter at the core than at the surface it provides great dirt holding capacity for non-uniform sediment. Most private well owners know to avoid using cellulose filters on non-chlorinated well water, but many don’t realize that cotton fibers used in many string wound cartridges are made up of over 90% cellulose material. USWF string wound filters are only made with polypropylene fibers because the synthetic fibers are more bacteria resistant, making USWF string wound filters the perfect sediment filter choice for untreated well water.

Melt Blown Polypropylene Filters:
USWF melt blown filters utilize staged depth loading for maximum dirt holding and filter efficiency. The outermost layers of the filter are made of larger fibers to trap larger particles while the innermost layer traps the fine particles down the filter’s micron rating. Most of the competition only has 3 stages of filtration, but USWF melt blown filters include an additional layer. This fourth layer of filtration provides a more consistent distribution of dirt through the filter improving its efficiency without sacrificing any dirt holding capacity. Melt blown polypropylene filters are effective at reducing common contaminants such as coarse and fine sand, dirt, silt, and sediment.
